Koning Willem II College

Hunter Douglas Architectural played a key role in transforming the Koning Willem II College in Tilburg, in collaboration with architecten|en|en. The project features 1,200 m² of bespoke solid wood linear ceilings, crafted from thermally modified fraké in three slat sizes (18×66, 18×93, and 18×120 mm).

Installed on both flat and curved surfaces, the Derako® solid wood system enhances the fluidity of the design, particularly in the atrium and the bridge connecting the sports halls. The renovation integrates new and existing structures, modernising facilities while supporting future-ready education.

Sustainability was central to the project, incorporating solar panels, energy-efficient features, and green spaces designed with MTD Landschapsarchitecten to connect the Stappegoor and Groenewoud neighbourhoods. Hunter Douglas Architectural’s warm, textured wood ceilings bring cohesion and character to this forward-thinking learning environment.
