New Logic III

New Logic III, commonly referred to as The Tube, is the latest distribution centre for Rhenus Logistics, situated in the Het Laar business park near the A58 highway in Tilburg, Netherlands. This expansive facility boasts 40,000 m² of warehouse space, complemented by an additional 17,000 m² of workspaces and 3,400 m² of office space.

High-end sustainable distribution centre
Architect Heembouw faced the exciting challenge of designing a high-end, sustainable distribution centre that serves as both a visual landmark and a welcoming environment for employees. Inspired by the dynamic highway adjacent to the site, the building’s unique elliptical shape, along with its light, natural exterior materials, evokes the appearance of an extraterrestrial object that has landed next to the road.

Highest BREEAM sustainability score
The south side of the structure features a generous canopy that functions as a sunroof, enhancing the indoor climate. Triple-glazed windows ensure warmth retention during colder months, while the building operates entirely without gas, utilizing a heat pump and self-regulating smart lighting. This innovative distribution centre exemplifies sustainability and architectural excellence, achieving the highest BREEAM sustainability score ever recorded in the Netherlands at 99.48%. Constructed with over 2.5 million kg of steel, New Logic III was awarded the 2020 Steel Prize in the ‘Industrial Building’ category.

Natural ambiance
To foster a warm and inviting indoor atmosphere, wood was incorporated alongside the steel elements. Hunter Douglas produced and supplied 1,030 m² of Linear Proline ceiling and wall coverings. Using a specially designed curved carrier system, the solid wooden ceiling seamlessly integrates with the building’s organic shape, preserving the integrity of the wood. The acoustic non-woven fabric between the wooden slats, chosen in a subtle grey, harmonizes with the steel elements throughout the building. Additionally, the Hunter Douglas grill system serves as a design feature that enhances the natural ambiance within the office. Overall, The Tube presents a modern workspace that prioritizes sustainability and user experience.
