Charles De Gaulle Airport, one of the world’s busiest airports, has undergone significant transformations in several of its halls, with Hunter Douglas Architectural providing both architectural ceilings and wooden wall cladding. Each solution was tailored to meet the high standards of the project.

Recently voted the best European airport for customer service, Charles De Gaulle continually invests in upgrades. Two halls in Terminal 2E, Halls L and K, have been redesigned to create unique spaces. Hall L has been completely revamped after three years of renovations, replacing the dark steel ceiling with 8,000 m² of solid wood grills in a matte white finish. This change, along with new concrete flooring, brightens the previously dim space and enhances visibility.

In Hall K, earlier renovations included 1,200 m² of solid wood ceiling grills and 650 m² of nano-perforated walnut wall cladding, creating a cohesive and improved ambiance. The wall cladding was selected for its excellent acoustic properties, achieving sound absorption values between 0.90 and 0.95.

Practical considerations were also crucial, including the need for easy access to ceiling infrastructure for maintenance. Hunter Douglas provided tailored solutions to address these technical constraints, reworking existing structures and ensuring that ceiling hatches were lightweight and easily manageable.

Wood played a central role in both projects, offering warmth and strength, which are vital for areas requiring frequent maintenance. The architects prioritized environmental standards in material processing, aligning with the ADP Group’s sustainability goals.

Collaboration with Hunter Douglas was essential for realizing both aesthetic and technical aspects. Prototypes and samples facilitated quick decision-making, ensuring that the final installations met high-quality standards.
