Historical Archive

The Historical Archive of Cologne safeguards valuable documents and is now one of Europe’s most modern and durable city archives. After its 2009 collapse, the archive was rebuilt near the Rhine, seamlessly blending into Cologne’s green belt. Designed by Waechter + Waechter Architects, the new location offers scenic views and a natural setting.

Sustainable Design
The building reopened in 2021 and features 1,215 m² of Derako® Grill ProLine ceilings and walls. Solid wood was chosen for its sustainability, acoustic benefits, fire resistance, and ventilation properties.

Oregon Pine & Climate Control
The Oregon Pine panels (10-20-20-31 mm) create a uniform, natural look while guiding visitors through the space. Wood also helps maintain stable humidity levels, essential for document preservation, while enhancing the overall atmosphere.
