Acoustic and Aesthetic Experience at Eurostar’s New UK Terminal
Yesterday marked the official re-opening of the newly developed UK Terminal at Amsterdam Central Station, reinstating direct Eurostar services from Amsterdam to London without needing a stopover in Brussels. As part of this significant infrastructure upgrade, Hunter Douglas Architectural has contributed to the terminal’s refined interior with its innovative acoustic ceiling solutions.
For Phase 1a of the project, Hunter Douglas Architectural supplied 555 m² of HeartFelt® 40HR64, a unique ceiling system featuring round panels with a width of 40 mm and a height of 64 mm, extending up to 6,000 mm in length. Crafted from non-woven, thermally formable PES fibers, these panels provide outstanding acoustic performance and have been rigorously tested for fire safety. The elegant integration of these panels into a white aluminum cove enhances both the terminal’s aesthetics and its acoustic environment, ensuring a comfortable experience for travelers. Additionally, 15 m² of Safety Loop System has been installed, further contributing to the safety and functionality of the terminal.
Increased Capacity and Improved Travel Experience
The new UK Terminal, located in the Amstelpassage of Amsterdam Central Station, significantly enhances capacity, allowing 400 passengers to board per train, compared to the previous 275. With Eurostar now operating three daily services to London, accommodating up to 900 passengers per journey, the terminal plays a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for international rail travel.
“This project highlights our commitment to delivering innovative, high-performance architectural solutions that combine functionality and aesthetics,” said [Name, Position] at Hunter Douglas Architectural. “We are proud to have contributed to an infrastructure development that enhances the passenger experience while maintaining stringent design and acoustic standards.”
The inaugurated terminal represents a key step in improving international rail connectivity while ensuring a seamless and comfortable travel experience for passengers between the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
